Donald E. Hamm, 53, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company Employee

Donald E. Hamm, age 53, of Lorain, died Thursday March 4th, 2010 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph following an eight month illness.

He was born in Yeager, West Virginia on May 18, 1956. He grew up in Elyria after his family relocated to Ohio in 1966. He had been a resident of Lorain for the past 25 years.

Don was a 1974 graduate of Elyria West High School. For the past thirty years he was employed as a warehouse man for the Pepsi Cola Bottling Company in Elyria.

He was a member of Teamsters Local 1164.

Mr. Hamm was dedicated to his family and especially his nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Additional interests included four wheeling and travel.

He was a member of the Church of the New Harvest in Lorain and was also a member of the Men’s Group of the church.

Survivors include his sons Michael (Laura) of St. Charles, Missouri, and Matthew of Granite City, Illinois, grandson Christopher also of Granite City, his mother Elma L. Hook (nee Burress) of Lorain, brothers Randy Burress (Lucia) of Princeton, West Virginia and Thomas Hamm (Kim) of Elyria, by his sisters Barbara Hamm of Lorain, Susan Hamm of Sheffield Township, Tawnya Valencia of Norman, Oklahoma, and Kathy Wallace (Rob) of Sheffield Township, as well as by his former wife and friend Donna Masters of Granite City, and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Troy Hamm in 2006 and by his step-mother Joe Ann Hamm in 2008.

Friends may call Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Danny Parsons, Pastor of the Church of the New Harvest presiding. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
