Margaret Paulakonis, 96, Lifetime Member of the American Slovak Club

Margaret Paulakonis (nee Zuffa), 96, of Lorain, died Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Universal Healthcare of Raleigh, North Carolina.

She was born Nov. 6, 1913 in Krasna Horka, Czechoslovakia and had resided in Lorain since 1936.

Margaret was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, the church Rosary Society, St. Ann's Lodge Branch #114, Slovak Catholic Sokols and was a lifetime member of the American Slovak Club. She worked at Zatroch Cafe and U.S. Steel before raising her family.

She is survived by her son, Joseph Paulakonis (Cheryl) of Chapel Hill, NC, daughter Mary Dembek (Joseph) of Franklin, TN, ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Paulakonis on September 14, 2005 and daughter Irene Lumby in 1990.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 11 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
