Bruno G. Wachholz, 85, World War II Veteran
Bruno G. Wachholz, 85, of Lorain, died Saturday March 6, 2010 at his home.He was born Feb. 13, 1925 in Essen, Germany and had resided in Lorain since childhood.
Bruno graduated from Lorain High School and then served with the US Army 517th Airborne Division during World War II. He participated in the Battle of the Bulge and saw action in Italy, Germany and Africa. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Bruno was a carpenter for the former Carpenters Union in Elyria and worked mostly in local housing construction for over 49 years retiring in 1990. He enjoyed gardening and woodworking.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Ursula Wachholz (nee Huebner), daughter Ursula Wachholz of Lorain, sons Jerome Wachholz (Laurel) of Twinsburg, Christopher Wachholz of Amherst, John Wachholz (Kathleen) of Bath, PA and Thomas Wachholz of Elyria, 8 grandchildren and sister Lillian Burgess of Zephyrhills, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his son Robert Wachholz and his parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
The family will receive friends Monday 4 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, OFM Conv, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
