Rose B. DeLeonardis , 85, Active Member in Local Veterans' Organizations
Rose B. DeLeonardis (nee Kodman), age 85, of Amherst, passed away Sunday March 14, 2010. She was married to Emerick DeLeonardis until he passed away in 1989.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents Rosalie Toth Kodman and Ignatz Kodman Sr.; brothers Ignatz Kodman Jr. and Frank Kodman; infant grandchildren Michael Yuhasz and Frank Yuhasz.
She is survived by her daughters Darlene (Hambly) Yuhasz (Rudy-deceased) of Ft. Myers Fla., Linda Jurasin (Jim) of Lorain, Jackie Fair (Mark) of Cape Coral Fla.; grandchildren Rudy P. Yuhasz of Amherst, Jim J. Jurasin (Jen) of Lorain, Brandi Benco of Cape Coral Fla., Daniel Benco of Cape Coral Fla., Ariana Fair of Cape Coral Fla., great grandchild Lilianna Jurasin of Lorain and nephews Frank Kodman (Erna) of Lorain and Ernie Kodman (Romayne-deceased) of Lorain along with numerous great nieces and nephews
Rose resided in Lorain then Amherst and wintered in Ft. Myers Florida where she maintained a home with her late husband Emerick. She retired from the Clearview School District where she was employed as a cashier at Vincent Elementary School. Always full of life and on the go, she was an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Elmer Johnson American Legion Post 118 where she also served as the Auxiliary Chaplain, the ladies Auxiliary of Amherst Eagles Aerie 1442 where she was a three year trustee, the Ladies Auxiliary of Amherst VFW Post 1662 where she also served as the Patriotic Instructor, as well as the Ladies Auxiliary of Italian-American Veterans Post #1 in Lorain. Through her affiliations with the veteran’s groups she volunteered extensively at the Brecksville Veterans Administration Hospital.
Mrs. DeLeonardis enjoyed attending breakfasts and luncheons with her Lorain High School classmates of 1943. As a music enthusiast, she enjoyed listening and dancing, especially the polka, by following the Al Battistelli Band. Casino gambling trips, solving crossword puzzles everyday, and cuddling with her beloved cat Sweetie were some of her favorite pastimes.
Rose was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Her family will receive friends in the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain on Sunday March 21st between the hours of 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted by the officers and members of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 1662 at 4:30 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday March 22nd beginning at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in The Catholic Church of St Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Reverend Charles Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., Parochial Vicar of the parish will officiate. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
The family encourages memorial contributions to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
