Agnes Jenkins, 92, Homemaker
Agnes Jenkins (nee Sikorski), 92, of Lorain, died Saturday March 20, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
She was born Dec. 4, 1917 in Lorain. She attended Lorain schools and was employed at General Motors in Elyria from 1946-1950.
As a homemaker, she enjoyed baking for family, friends, neighbors and church. She was an avid reader and loved working word puzzles. As a member of St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, Agnes volunteered many hours at the St. Joseph Hospital gift shop and Community Health Partners Our Thrift Shop. She worked at Lorain Public Library book sales, ushered at the Lorain Palace and sang in the choir at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lorain where she was a member for many years.
She is survived by her daughter Joyce Vacha with whom she made her home in recent years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years Archie in 1987, her parents Constantine and Anna Sikorski (nee Janosh), brothers Leo, Justin, John and Joseph Sikorski and sisters Sister Mary Frances CSFN (Margaret Sikorski), Sister Margaret Mary CSFN (Frances Sikorski) and Mary Cook.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
