Genevieve M. Wenzel, 100, Enjoyed Traveling

She was born in Cleveland on April 16, 1909; following her marriage in 1929 she moved to Lorain and remained a resident there until relocating to Elyria in 1972. Mrs. Wenzel had been a resident of the Life Care Center since 1999.

Genevieve was an active parishioner of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Slovenian Catholic Church where she was a member and past president of the church’s Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Lorain Slovenian Home and its Auxiliary as well as AMLA/SDZ Slovenian Fraternal Lodge # 26.

In her free time Mrs. Wenzel liked to travel.

Survivors include her son John (Sharon) Wenzel residing in Colorado, grandchildren Lena Wenzel, Elan Wenzel Sharon Ann Udovich (Vernon), Ronald Szantay (Sue) Richard Szantay, and Shelley Bixby (Ray), four great grandchildren, eight great, great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband John in 1979, by her daughter Marie Szantay in 1969, by her grandson Robin, by her parents Joseph and Gertrude Zimmerman, and by three sisters and six brothers.

Visitation will be Sunday from 3 - 6 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Thomas Smith, Pastor of St. Frances Cabrini Parish at St. John’s Church presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
