Alice B. Moes, 94, Enjoyed Gardening and Sailing

Photo of Alice B.  Moes Alice B. Moes (nee Bartter), 94 of Vermilion, died Friday, March 26, 2010 at Community Health Partners West after a short illness.

She was born July 9, 1915 in Cleveland. She has been a Vermilion resident for the past 65 years and was active in the family Cider Mill.

She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion, American Legion Auxiliary Post #397 and a social member of the AMVETS Post #22 and VFW Post #7576. She was a member of the Silver Sneakers Class at the Vermilion Family YMCA.

She enjoyed gardening, sailing, boating, walking on beaches and shelling. She was a member of bridge groups including the Elberta Peaches for 65 years. She enjoyed her family most of all.

Alice is survived by her daughters, Frances (Joe) Zellers and Jean (James) Liljegren; sons, William Moes and Robert (Mary) Moes all of Vermilion; grandchildren, Patrick, Alesha, Sean, Matthew, Stephanie, Christine, Joscelyn, Emily, and Samuel; great grandchildren, Emerich, Benjamin, Isabella, Ricky, Maria, and Emmet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Frank Moes on Jan. 25, 1998; her sisters, Jeanette Shepherd, Myrtle Ruth Wise, Dorothy Easton; brothers, Harley, Clyde, James and Bud Bartter and her parents, Merton and Lena (nee Reitsma) Bartter.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be held on Wednseday, Mar 31, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Father Thomas Webber will officiate. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
