Andrew J. Haramia III, 69, Detective For Lorain Police Department
Andrew J. Andy Haramia III, age 69, died Thursday April 1, 2010 at the Welcome Nursing Home in Oberlin following an extended illness.
He was born in Cleveland on Ja. 14th, 1941.
Mr. Haramia served in United States Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis fulfilling duty assignments aboard the USS Wahkiakum County.
He was a thirty year veteran of the Lorain Police Department retiring as a detective in 2000 and was a member of Lorain Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #3.
In his free time Andy enjoyed fishing, classic cars, boating, and traveling.
He is survived by sons Michael A. Haramia (wife Julie) of Olathe, Kansas, and Mark A. Haramia (companion Stacy Glowacki) of Amherst, grandchildren, Megan, Hannah, Noah, and Matthew, by his sister Angela Irons residing in South Carolina, and by nieces Chrissie and Jackie.
He was preceded in death by his father Andrew Haramia, by his mother Lorraine (Forguson) Szymalak, and by a brother Jimmy.
Visitation will be Monday April 5th from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where funeral services will be Tuesday April 6th, at 10:30 a.m. Reverend Larry Skrant will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township where joint military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 30 and Mullen-Murray VFW Post #451 both of Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to either the Activities Fund at Welcome Nursing Home, 417 South Main St., Oberlin, OH 44074, The American Heart Association, 15120 Collections Center, Dr., Chicago, IL 60693, or the Autism Society of the Heartland, P.O.
