Edward S. Rigda, 89, United States Navy Veteran
Edward S. Rigda, age 89, of Lorain, died unexpectedly at his residence on April 7th, 2010.He was born in Oliphant, Pennsylvania on Dec. 5, 1920 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1925.
Mr. Rigda was a veteran of the United States Navy where fulfilled duty assignments as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate First Class during WWII. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Edward was employed as a scale man in the #1 machine shop at United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cyahoga Works; he retired in 1982 following 41 dedicated years of service.
Mr. Rigda was a parishioner of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. He was a member of the St. John the Baptist Lodge of the First Catholic Slovak Union. In his free time Ed enjoyed golf, watching old movies, and caring for his yard.
Survivors include nephews Paul Rigda, Ron Rigda, and Dave Luca, and nieces Carolyn Zilch and Marsha Milovich.. He is also survived by a variety of great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Matthew and Sophie (nee Schuster) Rigda, by brothers Michael Rigda in 1958 and Paul Rigda in 2005, sisters Anna Roby in 1985, Helen Rigda in 1988, and Christina Luca in 2002, and nieces Shirley Harrison and Coletta Jason.
Friends may call Thursday April 15th from 9:30 a.m.until time of closing prayers at 10:30 a.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, pastor, will preside. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
