Waldreen Koscho, 89, Avid Sports Fan
Waldreen “Pudgie” Koscho (nee Mroski), age 89, of Lorain, passed away peacefully in the company of her family on April 14th, 2010.
She was born in Lorain on Jan. 18, 1921 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
Mrs. Koscho attended Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish School and went on to graduate from Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1939. While at Lorain High she was inducted into the National Honor Society.
During the war effort she was employed as a production worker for the Worthington Ball Company in Elyria. As her children grew, she re-entered the workforce taking a job as a clerk for the City of Lorain’s Water Department; she retired from that position in 1983 following fifteen years of service with the municipality.
She was a life-long parishioner of Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church and was also a member of the Union of Poles. She was an avid sports fan who enjoyed travel and spending time with her family.
Waldreen is survived by her son Kenneth (Pam) of Lorain, daughter Nancy (Michael) Wryst of Amherst, daughter-in-law Jean Koscho of Lorain, grandchildren Robb Koscho, David Koscho, Beth Koscho, Alexandra Bee, Brian Koscho, Joe Wryst, and Nick Wryst, and by her sister Helen Nickoloff of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband John “K.J.” Koscho in 2006, by her son John A. “Jack” Koscho in 2001, by a great grandson Aiden Koscho in 2004, by her parents John and Josephine (nee Dec) Mroski, by her brother Stanley, and by sisters Josephine (in infancy) and Anna Czech.
Visitation will be Friday April 16th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church, 1454 Lexington Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Robert Glepko, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
