Anthony I. Mihalic, 89, Enjoyed Flower Gardening and Yard Work
Anthony I. Big A Mihalic, 89, of Sheffield Township, died Friday April 30, 2010 at Golden Acres Nursing Home in Amherst after a brief illness.
He was born Feb. 4, 1921 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain/Sheffield Township area resident.
Anthony served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II.
He worked at Thew Shovel in Lorain as a supervisor retiring in 1977 after 33 years. Then he worked at the Lorain County Jail as the supervisor of maintenance retiring in 1985.
Anthony was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where he served as an usher during mass. He was a life member of AMVETS Post #47 of Lorain and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed flower gardening, yard work, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, family gatherings, walking and fixing things around the home.
He is survived by his children Anthony S. Mihalic, Gerald Mihalic, Steven Mihalic (Elizabeth Beth Ann) and Diane Schuster (Bret), all of Lorain, 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and brother William Mihalic of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Stella A. Mihalic (nee Kosakowski) on February 4, 2010, parents Jacob and Julia Mihalic (nee Markovich), sister Mary Barris and brothers Steve, John, Joe and Frank Mihalic.
The family will receive friends Monday 4 - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria Twp. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
