Craig A. Rak, Jr., 40, Unico Corporation I.T. Specialist

Photo of Craig A. Rak, Jr. Craig A. Rak, Jr., age 40, of Elyria, died Friday May 7th, 2010 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation following an extended illness.

He was born in Elyria on April 22, 1970 and grew up in Lorain. He was a 1988 graduate of Southview High School where he was a two varsity letterman on both the football and wrestling teams. He was also served as a Buckeye Boys State Delegate.

He continued his education as a history major on scholarship at Oberlin College; he later attended DeVry University in Columbus, as well as Lorain County Community College.

Craig was employed in the information technology service division of Unico Corporation of Avon Lake; he previously had served as the manager of Unico/Poly One’s Long Beach, California branch.

A fan of all sports, he enjoyed computer games, and the Dave Matthews Band. Additional interests included following the Oakland Raiders and Toronto Blue Jays professional sports franchises, as well spending time with the children of his family and friends.

He is survived by his mother Maxine (nee Bailey) Rak, sister Melanie M. Rak, and maternal grandmother Cecilia Bailey all residing in Lorain, along with a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Carl and Gloryann (nee Lavish) Rak, by his maternal grandfather Stephen Bailey, and by his cousin Jason A. Rak.

Visitation will be Tuesday May 11th from 5:00 pm until time of funeral services at 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Thomas Smith, Pastor of St. Francis Cabrini Parish at St. John Church will officiate. Private burial will take place later.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contributions to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
