Patricia E. Toth, 81, Active in Church Groups

Photo of Patricia E. Toth Patricia E. Toth (nee Shawd), 81, of Lorain, died Saturday May 15, 2010 at Center Ridge Nursing Home in North Ridgeville after a long illness.

She was born June 30, 1928 in Kenton, Ohio and had resided in Lorain since 1946.

Pat graduated from Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, Delaware.

She had been a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain since 1968 where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, a Lector, the Program Director of Christ Renews It’s Parish, was active in the RCIA program, participated in the scripture study series and was a member of the Holy Name Society. At St. Peter School, Pat served as a Girl Scout leader, taught PSR and worked as a math tutor for over 20 years. She was a past member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where she was active with Cursillo, the Marian Guild, the Boy Scout Auxiliary and helped in the kitchen. She was a member of the Notre Dame India Mission Group #2 since 1970.

Pat enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and traveling.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Elmer Toth, children Mary Esther Toth Wenzel (John) of Fairport Harbor, Ohio, Sharon Ann Bird (Bud) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Anastasia Heeter (William) of Portsmouth, Virginia, Dr. Charles R. Toth (Robin) of Pawcatuck, Connecticut and Mary Jo Stammitti (Phil) of Amherst Township, grandchildren Valerie Toth of Chicago, Paul Heeter of Portsmouth, VA, BJ Bird and John Bird of Virginia Beach, Va, Jack Toth and Derick Toth of Pawcatuck, CT, Holly Renner of Chesterland and Jeffrey Wenzel of Tampa, FL.

She was preceded in death by her son John Toth on April 28, 1986, granddaughter Jessica Toth on August 9, 2004, mother Retta Shawd (nee Wood), father John Shawd, stepmother Esther Shawd (nee Delaney) and brothers John Shawd and Richard Shawd.

The family will receive friends Saturday 9 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Private family burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

In leau of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Peter Church, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, OH. 44052.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
