John C. Cera, 100, Retired Army Colonel and Government Engineer
John C. Cera, age 100, a retired Army Colonel and long time Federal Government engineer, died Sunday May 9, 2010 at Buckingham’s Choice, Adamstown, Maryland.
Mr. Cera was born June 23, 1909 in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School. He also graduated from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Now Carnegie Mellon University) in 1931 as an Electrical Engineer.
He was employed until 1941 by US Steel as Chief Industrial Engineer in the Lorain, Ohio and Ellwood City, Pennsylvania plants.
During World War II, Colonel Cera was on full time active duty with the Army Signal Corp. in various capacities for 6 years. From 1946 until 1973 when Colonel Cera retired from Federal Service, he had been employed as a management engineer successively with the War Assets Administration, the Comptroller of the Army, the National Production Authority, and the Atomic Energy Commission (for 20 years).
After his government retirement, Mr. Cera worked for 2 years with the Electric Power Research Institute, Washington Office.
Mr. Cera is survived by a son, Thomas J. Cera of New Market, MD; a daughter, Nancy L. Rooney of Myersville, MD and one sister, Clarice Broglio of Lorain.
The family will receive friends Monday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
