Vera G. Griste, 95, Enjoyed Sewing
Vera G. Griste, 95, (nee Saunders) of Elyria passed away on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Wesleyan Village following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Chicago, IL on April 14, 1915 moving to Lorain as a young child. She graduated from Lorain High School and worked at the Lorain
County Court House until she married Karl Townsend and they moved to Wellington.
Over the years, she also has lived in California and Arizona. She returned to Ohio about 20 years ago; living in Westlake and Rocky River. During her working career, she worked for several banks, both locally and in California.
Mrs. Griste enjoyed sewing and won many blue ribbons at the Lorain County Fair. She was a loyal Cleveland Indians fan.
She is survived by her nephews Jack (Charlene) Elliott of Sheffield Village, Fred (Liz) Saunders of Cottonwood, Arizona, Sandy (Cindy) Saunders of South Jordan, Utah, nieces Bonnie (Jack) Scott of Atascadero, CA, Sally (William) Welch of Phoenix, Arizona, several step children, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews living in Nevada, California, Utah, Alaska and Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Karl Townsend, her second husband Morton Moores, her third husband Charles Griste, her parents Fred and Anna (nee Scheiferstein) Saunders, sister Mildred Elliott and brother Ellis Saunders and Harold Saunders.
Friends may call on Tuesday, June 29, 2010 from 10:00 am until services at 11:00 am in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. Pastor Greg Sellers of the the Lorain Light House United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery in Wellington.
The family suggest that memorial contributions may be made to the Lorain Light House United Methodist Church, Capital Funds Account, 3015 Meister Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
