Violet Teresa DeSilvester, RN
Violet Teresa (nee:Gonnella) DeSilvester, passed away and was delivered into Gods Hands on July 4th at Community Regional Medical Center in the company of her loving husband of 53 years.She was a true believer in Almighty God and was a lifelong parishioner of the Church of St. Peter and quite frequently prayed the Rosary to Our Holy Mother Mary.
Violet was born on September 20, 1933 in Lorain to Italian-immigrant parents, Domenico and Catherine Gonnella and she remained a lifelong resident of this community. She graduated from Lorain H.S (class of 1951) and the St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Dayton (class of 1954).
She entered into Holy Matrimony with fellow lifelong Lorain native, Anthony DeSilvester, on May 4, 1957.
She worked as a Registered Nurse at several area hospitals, primarily at the former Lorain Community Hospital for many years retiring in 1995.
Her very nature was loving / friendly which touched many lives and she lived by a credo that embodied a true and wonderful decency: As a wife - shared a mutual devotion with her husband (together they were the picture of marital love and commitment). As a mother/ grandmother - demonstrated overwhelming love and understanding (combined with her zeal to be an active participant in nurturing their growth / development). As a nurse - practiced compassionate caring (associated with an ethic of stern professionalism). As a friend - showed a Christian spirit of selfless giving to others (a true friend).���
Violet is survived by her husband, Anthony; five children, George (Joan), Teresa (Ray), Robert (Debbie), Edward (Denise) and Anthony (Stacey); six grandchildren, Adam, Nicole, Blake, Catherine, Angelina and Olivia; two siblings, Anthony (Eileen nee:Coon) Gonnella and Geraldine Gonnella (Stuart).
She is preceded in death by her parents (Catherine, 2005 and Dominic, 1997) and daughter-in-law (Cynthia/Robert, 2006).
Family and friends may call on Thursday, July 8th from 5PM to 9PM at Reidy - Scanlan - Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain. Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 9th with a 9:20AM Prayer Service at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM at the Church of St. Peter on 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain, Fr. Chuck Henkle, O.F.M. Conv., officiating. Christian Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Also, the family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all the staff at Anchor Lodge and Community Regional Medical Center for all the care and kindness during her extended illness. May God Bless Violet (she will be dearly missed and always remembered).
