Robert J. Chet, 58, Senior National Representative for the Utilities Workers Union of America/AFL-CIO
Robert J. Chet, 58, of Lorain, died Friday July 9, 2010 in the emergency room at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain after suffering an apparent heart attack at his home.He was born May 2, 1952 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident. Bob graduated from Lorain High School in 1970 and attended Lorain County Community College.
Bob was the current Senior National Representative for the Utilities Workers Union of America/AFL-CIO. Previously he served as President of Local #270 of the UWUA. He worked as a mechanic welder at CEI in Avon Lake and prior to that had worked at Nelson Stud/TRW in Lorain and Elyria Township. He had also worked at Faroh's Candies in Lorain.
Bob was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. He recently joined St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and was a member of the American Slovak Club.
Bob was an avid fan of Lorain Catholic High School girls basketball and volleyball and Vermilion High School girls basketball. He enjoyed maintaining three immaculate homes and yards.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years Paula Chet (nee Trnian), daughters Anjeanette Caffarel (nee Chet) (Christopher) and Alicia Chet, granddaughter Cassandra Lynn Caffarel and sister Donna Moon (Bob).
He was preceded in death by his son Alexander Chet and parents Alexander and Louise Chet (nee Vigg).
The family will receive friends Sunday 3-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:15 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Monday at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Dr., Amherst. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
