Helen E. Silac, 82, Enjoyed Reading

Helen E. Silac (nee Druda), 82, of Sheffield Township, died Saturday July 10, 2010 at her home after a sudden illness.

She was born September 23, 1927 in Lyndora, Pennsylvania and had resided in Sheffield Township for the past 60 years.

Helen graduated from Butler High School in Butler, Pennsylvania. She worked as a secretary at Bendix in Elyria and the Elyria Credit Bureau.

Helen was a charter member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where she volunteered at the church carnival, worked bingo and card parties and was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society. She was a member of the Czechoslovak Society of America and the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, flower gardening and traveling.

She is survived by her children Dianne Timko (George) of Amherst and George A. Silac (Therese) of Sheffield Lake, grandsons Jonathan Silac of Sheffield Lake and Geoffrey Silac of Vermilion, sister Mary Chuba and brother Frank Druda, both of Butler, Pennsylvania and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband George J. Silac on Feb. 9, 2010, parents George and Vilma Druda (nee Rikal) and brother Paul Druda.

There will be no visitation. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria Twp. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
