John W. Schmauch, 77, Golden Crescent Telephone Co. Owner/Operator

John W. Schmauch, 77, of Vermilion passed away July 12, 2010 at his home unexpectedly.

Mr. Schmauch was born in Lorain on July 2, 1933, the son of the late John W. and Florence B. (nee Friedley) Schmauch. He attended Howe Military School and was a 1952 graduate of Lorain High School. He attended Kiski Prep School in Saltsburg, PA and continued his education at Kent State University for two years.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He earned National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the Korean Service Ribbon.

Mr. Schmauch was the owner/operator at Golden Crescent Telephone Co. in Vermilion. He had also worked in his family's busing business, the former Employee's Transit and Lorain City Lines, he worked as a trouble shooter for Mack Truck and was a partner in the former Ye Ol Henhouse Restaurant.

He was a former member of the Lorain Rotary Club, a former Commodore with the Lorain Yacht Club, Power Squadron, and a former Salvation Army Board of Directors member.

Mr. Schmauch is survived by his sister Jo-Ann Schmauch of Avon, Ohio.

Friends may call Friday, July 16, 2010 from 4-7 pm. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals,m 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.

Funeral Services will be at the funeral home at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 17, 2010 with Rev. Dr. L. H. Chamberlain, co-pastor of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
