Genara Alvarado Hernandez de Santiago
Genara Alvarado Hernandez de Santiago passed away on Friday, July 9, 2010. She was 81 years old, born and raised in Cayey, Puerto Rico. As one of the few remaining elders of her generation who came to Lorain in 1949, she was very proud of her heritage.Mrs. Santiago was the proud matriarch of 12. She was a born leader, educator, and healer. Her greatest gifts were her husband, children, friends, and community. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, Ohio.
She will be deeply missed by her husband of 64 years, Hipolito M. "Polo" Santiago of Lorain, Her daughter Gladys S. Turner, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Adam, Eric, and Gina (Genara) Burgos, Edgar, Mira, and Arjun Santiago, Jennifer, Angelina Rosin, Alivia Starr and Christopher Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jose and Rosa (nee Hernandez) Alvarado, sister Rosin Alvarado, and her beloved daughter Nance S. Burt.
Her family will receive friends Tuesday from 4 to 8 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street in Lorain, Ohio. Phone (440) 277-8164. Closing prayers will be Wednesday, 8:45 AM in the funeral home then Mass at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue. at 9:30 AM. Rev. Fr. William A. Thaden, pastor will officiate.
Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery , Lorain Ohio. Family and friends will be received at Sacred Heart Chapel for brunch immediately after burial.
