Michael LaBella, 86, Rhapsody Cafe Owner/Operator

Michael LaBella, 86, of Lorain, died Tuesday July 20, 2010 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home in Amherst after a short illness.

He was born September 26, 1923 in Washington, Pennsylvania and had resided in the Lorain area for the past 60 years.

Michael served with the US Marine Corps during World War II as a private first class and saw action in Abemama Gilbert Islands, Okinawa and Ryukyu.

Michael was the owner/operator of Rhapsody Café in Lorain retiring in 1991. Prior to that he worked at Fruhauf Trailer from 1950-1970.

He was a member of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Italian-American Veterans Post #1 and VFW Post #451, all of Lorain. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.

He is survived by his stepson Walter Kruszewski (Patricia) of Lorain, step granddaughter Kathy Kubasak (Richard) of Lorain, step great grandchildren Michael Kubasak of North Ridgeville and Michelle Dowdell (Jake) of Dublin, Ohio, sisters Josephine Orris, Lucille Amon and Margaret LaBella, all of Washington, PA and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Angela LaBella (nee Stembal) on January 2, 2008, daughter Patricia Josephine LaBella, parents Daniel and Fondina LaBella (nee Oliveto), brothers Charles and Daniel LaBella and sisters Mary Bonus and Helen Steratore.

Private family funeral services were held Thursday. Burial was in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.

Arrangements were under the direction of Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
