Mary Anna Curci, 97, Cherished Her Roles of Homemaker, Mother & Grandmother
Mary Anna Curci (nee Putignano), 97, of Lorain, went home to be with her Lord and her loving family and friends on Friday July 23, 2010 at Amherst Specialty Hospital.Mary Anna was born on June 15, 1913 in Noci, Bari, Italy. In 1927, at the age of 14, she came with her parents to Vandergrift, Pennsylvania where she taught herself to speak English by listening to soap operas on the radio. She resided in Vandergrift until her marriage to Frank C. Curci in 1938. They moved to Lorain and were married for 38 years until his passing in 1976.
Mary Anna and her husband took a great deal of pride in designing and building their home. In her younger years she enjoyed sewing and embroidery, skills that she learned while a student in Italy. Mary Anna cherished her roles of homemaker, loving mother and grandmother. She was noted for her Italian cooking and her pride in her Italian heritage.
She was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband Frank C. Curci, her parents Stefano and Rocca Maria Putignano (nee Vicenti), two sisters Jenny Putignano and Angela DiCola and brother Andrew Putignano.
Mary Anna is survived by her beloved son Attorney Nicholas R. Curci and his wife Nancy, three granddaughters: Stephanie of Lorain, Lisa of Chicago, IL and Franca Curci-Winiasz and her husband Jeremy of Cleveland and two nieces Mary Whipple of Springfield, VA and Susan DiCola of Columbia, MD. She will be deeply missed.
The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
