Elizabeth ''Ashie'' Gall, 85, ER Nurse

Elizabeth "Ashie" Gall, (nee Vida) age 85, died Sunday, July 25 at Firelands Hospital in Sandusky, Ohio, surrounded by those who loved her, after a lengthy illness.

Elizabeth made her home for the last four years at the Lutheran Memorial Home in Sandusky where she made many friends and enjoyed all their activities.

Ashie married John Joseph "Babs" Gall in May 1946 when Babs returned home from serving in the US Navy during World War II. They settled in Lorain and had three children, Dawn, Janice and John.

Elizabeth worked as an ER nurse for over 25 years at St. Josephs' Hospital in Lorain, retiring in 1993, she loved her job and first and foremost she loved helping those in need. She was a member of Saint Basil Romanian Catholic Church, Lorain where she served on the Ladies Guild and for many years served as the president of the Patria Romana Si Bihoreana Lodge 38, Lorain.

Ashie was an avid baker and made many wedding cakes over the years, her specialty was nut chiffon, and at Christmas she'd be busy making her nut rolls, poppy seed rolls, and her famous lady locks.

Her family was very special to her, especially her grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her home was always filled with family, friends, neighbors, great food, lots of laughter, and always and most important, a poker game. She loved going to Las Vegas, and spending winters in Cocoa Beach Florida. She loved life and having a great time! Elizabeth was loved and will always be in our hearts.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Dawn (Corky) Jung of Sandusky, Ohio, Janice (Mike) Virant of Summerville, South Carolina, and her son John Gall of Lorain, Ohio, grandchildren Courtney Jung, Jordan Jung, Ross Virant, Haley Jung and Olivia Virant, brother-in-law, Frank Gall, sister-in-laws, June Naelitz, Dorthy Popa and many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her beloved husband John J. "Babs" Gall of fifty years in 1996 who she dearly missed, her parents, Louis and Anna Lucia (nee Pop) Vida, her brothers Louis "Skinny" (Helen) Vida, John "Balo" (Kay) Vida, George "Satsie" (Rose) Vida, and Dan Vida, and sisters, Mary (John) Rufo, , Jeanna (Bill) Potemry. So.George, Mary, Balo, Rufo, Lou, Danny and Jeanna shuffle the cards.

Family will receive friends on Wednesday July 29 at the Richard Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st South Lorain, Ohio (440) 277-8164 from 4 to 8 pm, where Saracusta will be in the evening at 7 pm. Friends and family will meet on Friday, July 30, at the Richard Reidy Funeral home at 10 am for funeral services by Very Rev. Fr. Andre Matei, pastor of Saint Helena Romanian Catholic Church, Cleveland. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
