Jennie M. Tornabene, 85, Sales Associate
Jennie M. Tornabene (nee Giardini), age 85, of Lorain, died Wednesday July 28th, 2010 at Community Health Partners following an extended illness.
Jennie was born in Sykesville, Pennsylvania on November 17, 1924 and had been a resident of Lorain since her childhood.
A graduate of Lorain, High School, she was the proprietor of Mavis’s Restaurant which was formerly located on West 7th Street in Lorain. She was later employed as a sales associate for Harry’s Menswear and Al Januzzi’s World of Shoes.
Mrs. Tornabene was a parishioner of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and was a volunteer for Catholic Charities as well as the American Diabetes Association and the Lorain Senior Center.
She is survived by daughters Lynda Reiter (Greg) of Lorain, and Marianne Tornabene of Parma, by sons August A. (Josie) and James (Mary) both of Amherst and Andrew of Lorain. She is also leaves eight grandchildren, her brother Bernard Giardini of Lorain, and sister Clementine Costello also of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Pauline (nee Spegetti) Giardini, by her granddaughter Ashley Tornabene, and by her sister Jennie Giardini.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will begin Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel; a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 9:30 a.m. in the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3501 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
The family encourages memorial contributions to either the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
