James A. Myers, 81, Enjoyed the Outdoors
James A. Myers, 81 of Avon Lake died early Tuesday morning, August 3, 2010 at Arden Courts of Westlake after a lengthy illness.Mr. Myers was born in Elyria on Jan. 3, 1929 to the late Lester Benjamin and Ruth Pauline (nee Gilder) Myers. He graduated Elyria High School in 1947 and graduated from the Lorain Business College in 1966 with studies in accounting and finance.
He was an US Army veteran attaining the rank of Corporal with the 838th Engineer Aviation Battalion.
Mr. Myers was a 46 year member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Amherst; serving as a Deacon. He was a member of the Amherst Lions Club and Amherst Rotary Club. He enjoyed the out-of-doors, watching wildlife and western movies. He enjoyed spending time with his family. He has been a notary public since 1964.
He retired as an accountant from B. F. Goodrich, while emaining manager of the B. F. Goodrich Credit Union. He retired from the credit union in 1994.
Mr. Myers is survived by his daughters Pam Harmon of Gahanna, Debra (Steve Cooper) Brown of Elyria, Elaine (Ken) Keane of Chesapeake, VA, granddaughters Arianna ( Matt) Holtwick of Toledo, Megan Keane of Chesapeake, VA and a sister Betty L. Kelso of Idaho Falls, ID.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Wanda L. Braden and Bonita R. Franklin.
Friends may call on Friday, August 6, 2010 from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Pemberton, pastor of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, officiating.
Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Amherst Township with full military honors by the American Legion Post 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
