Edward P. Ponczocha, Jr., 66, Enjoyed Hunting, Boating, and Taking Care of his Lawn
Edward P. Ponczocha, Jr., age 66, of Camden Township, died on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at his home while under the care of New Life Hospice following a brief illness.He was born on January 27, 1944 in Lorain to the late Edward P. and Lillian (nee McMillan) Ponczocha Sr. He attended Lorain High School for three years and then was a graduate from the first graduating class of Admiral King High School in 1962. Following high school, Edward attended Purdue University for one year and then went to The Ohio State University for two years.
He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War on the USS Ashland. He served two years in active duty, followed by two years in the reserves.
Edward worked as a pipe fitter for the Local 42 in Norwalk for about 40 years, retiring in 2003.
From 1985 - 1988, Edward served as the president of Avon Little League program. He was also the president of the Black River Conservation Club, and for many years was a trustee of the Beaver Creek Boat Club.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, boating and taking care of his yard.
He is survived by his wife, Judy (nee Varady) to whom he would have been married to for 37 years this October 13th ; his sons, James (Jodi), of Vermilion and Scott (Donna) of Elyria; 4 grandchildren, Matthew, Claire, Carsen and Braeden; and his sister, Marilyn (Joe) Tramontana, of Avon.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. Fr. James Mazanec, Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
