Edward P. Hobor, 85, Enjoyed League Bowling and Coaching his Grandson
Edward P. Hobor, age 85, of Amherst Township, died peacefully on Friday August 27, 2010 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Navy where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Machinist’s Mate. He was the recipient of the American Theater Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Medal with one Bronze Star, and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a Life Member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the Veterans of Foreign War.
Mr. Hobor was a long-time member of Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church in Sheffield Township.
Ed was employed as a mechanic for the Ohio Turnpike Commission and retired from that post in 1985. He had previously worked as a welder for the American Shipbuilding Company and as a production assistant for the Hill and Hubbell Company.
In his younger days he played softball for Restimyer’s Softball Team where he was the catcher and his brother the pitcher. He enjoyed league bowling and was proud to have served as his grandson’s personal bowling coach.
Regarded as a gentleman farmer, additional interests included fishing, golf, woodworking, and building miniature ships.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Mildred (nee Strezovski), by his son Charles (Gloria) of Amherst Township, by grandson Charlie (Julie), granddaughter Amanda Hobor-Forcinito (Anthony), by siblings Charles Hobor (Wanda), Frances Hobor, Bernadette Steadman (Jim), Dorothy Hobor, and Marcella Turton, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his infant daughter Sue Ann Hobor and by his parents James and Anna (nee Falat) Hobor and by brothers-in-law Jack Turton, Paul Strezovski, and Joseph Potyrala.
Friends may call Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Additional visitation will be Tuesday in Ss. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, 1500 Lincoln Boulevard, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Edgar Anthony, Pastor of the church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where joint military honors will be conducted by the members of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the V.F.W. and American Legion Post # 30.
