Leo W. Sheets, 83, He Enjoyed Yardwork, Gardening and Raising Flowers
Leo W. Sheets, 83, of Sheffield Village, died Saturday September 18, 2010 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph in Lorain.
He was born September 15, 1927 in Lorain and had resided in Sheffield Village since 1952.
Leo graduated from Lorain High School in 1945 where he was a member of the Whistlers Club. He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a master machinist retiring in 1988.
Leo served as Sheffield Village Administrator from 1954 to 2004. He was concerned about the development of the village and wanted to make sure things were done right. He also served 4 years on village council, was a volunteer firefighter and served as village fire chief and superintendent of the water department.
He enjoyed yardwork, gardening and raising flowers.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years Barbara Sheets (nee Wagner), children Catherine Bancroft (Keith) of Medina, Larry Sheets (Ellen) of Sheffield Village and William Sheets of Sheffield, grandchildren Josh Sheets, Julie Clague (Casey), Natalie Sheets and Matt Sheets and sisters Carol Shinsky and Geraldine Adams. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Grace Sheets.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. Bob Daugherty will officiate. Burial will follow in Garfield Cemetery in Sheffield Village.
