John Horchik, 98, Enjoyed Bowling and Gardening

Photo of John Horchik John Horchik, 98, of Lorain, died Sunday September 19, 2010 at Anchor Lodge Assisted Living Center in Lorain.

He was born June 7, 1912 in Abauj Megye Fuzer, Radvany Hungary and had resided in Lorain since 1937 moving from Canada.

John served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II as a technical sergeant. He received the Army Occupation Medal - Germany, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, WWII Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

John worked at Thew Shovel Koehring Division in Lorain as a welder for 38 years retiring in 1975.

He was a member of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ in Lorain and enjoyed bowling and gardening.

He is survived by his brother Steve Horchik of Ontario, Canada, caregivers Cheryl and Rick Mariotto of Lorain and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen Horchik (nee Koleszar) in 2009, parents Andrew and Julianna Horchik (nee Danyi) and brother Andrew Horchik.

The family will receive friends Wednesday 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel. The Rev. Peter Toth, pastor of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the VFW Post #451 and American Legion #30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
