Phyllis J. Butrey, 83, Enjoyed Sports, Church Activities and Family

Photo of Phyllis J. Butrey Phyllis J. Butrey, 83, (nee Aebersold) of Amherst passed away on Saturday,
September 25, 2010 at the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake following a
brief illness.

Mrs. Butrey was born in Lorain on April 3, 1927, the daughter of the late Fred and Emma A (nee Banczyk) Aebersold. A lifelong resident of Amherst/Lorain, she graduated from Lorain High School in the class of 1944 B. She ranked 3rd in her class academically, served as a class officer and worked on the high school yearbook.

She was an active member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst where
she was a church elder, deaconess, church treasurer and a Sunday school
teacher. She also volunteered with the church Food Program, attended the Woman's Bible Study and the church Book Group.

Mrs. Butrey began her working career in 1944 with the National Tube Steel Co. until 1951. She then began working at the telephone company in Washington DC while her late Husband, Dr. Charles Butrey attended medical school. Following completion of his medical training, they returned to Lorain and
Mrs. Butrey became a full time homemaker. Upon the death of her husband in 1973, she returned to the workforce with employment at the Central Trust Bank, May Company, Zeibart and the former Western Steel (nka Moen).

"Mom was widowed at age 45, when her children were 7, 11, 16 and 18 years
old. She never remarried and raised and educated her four children. She was
the proud grandparent of eight and remained intimately involved in their
lives until the very end. She will be deeply missed by all those she loved
so much."

In addition to her church and family activities, she was a member of the
Cosmopolitan Club, the Lakeland Woman's Club and Wimodaugsis. Mrs. Butrey was a sports fan who avidly enjoyed The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland's Indians, Browns, Cavs and she especially enjoyed watching the grandchildren's sporting events.

She is survived by daughters Janice (Bill) Bartos, of Allen, TX, Linda (J.
B. Heineman) Butrey of Kodiak, AK, sons Dr. Charles (Laura) Butrey, Paul (Jackie) Butrey all of Avon Lake, grandchildren Stephanie Bartos, Bradd
Bartos, Daniel Bartos, Michael Butrey, Kay Butrey, Stefanie Warner, Rachel
Dillon and Andrew Butrey.

In addition to her late husband, Dr. Charles Butrey in 1973 and her
parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Arnold Aebersold and a sister
Lila Thomson.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 28, 2010 from 2 p.m - 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 10 a.m. in the
Heritage Presbyterian Church, 515 N. Leavitt Road, Amherst, Ohio 44001 with
Rev. James E. Smucker, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst
Township with a luncheon following at the church.
