Fernando Contreras-Crespo, 85, Enjoyed Spending Time with Family and Cooking
Fernando Contreras-Crespo 85, of Lorain, went to be home with his Lord and Savior Friday, October 22, 2010 surrounded by his loving family in his home.
He was born May 31, 1924 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico and came to Lorain in the early 1950’s.
Fernando retired at the age of 53 as a tool inspector from Ford Motor Company in Brookpark. He worked for his father on their farm in Puerto Rico.
He served as a PFC in the U.S. Army while he was stationed in Panama.
He enjoyed raising chickens, birds and especially his cats all named Maubro. He enjoyed working on cars, gardening and his Spanish Music and heritage. Most special to Fernando was cooking and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a devoted husband and father with strong moral and principles.
He will deeply missed by his wife of 64 years Ernesta (nee Carrion) Contreras of Lorain; sons Fernando "Pete" Contreras, Jr., Reynaldo (Juanita) Contreras, Wilfredo Contreras and Ernesto (Debra) Contreras all of Lorain; daughters Idalia (John) Kaniaris of Middletown, Ohio, Norma (Sixto) Bigio, Celeste (Richard) Arocho, Rose Mary (Edwin) Arocho, Yolanda (Alan) Shauck all of Lorain and Lydia (Raymond) Davila of Sheffield Lake; 26 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren; brothers Felipe and Orlando Contreras-Crespo both of San Lorenzo, Juan Contreras-Crespo of Chicago, Illinois and Sixto Contreras-Crespo, Miami, Florida; sisters Ada Melendez of Fejardo, Puerto Rico, Virginia Rodriguez of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Delia Contreras of San Lorenzo; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Juan and Aurelia (nee Crespo) Contreras; brother Ernesto Contreras; sisters Celeste Crespo, Justina Palmer and Luz Maria Contreras.
His family will receive friends Tuesday 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain (440) 277-8164. Where his service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Deacon Jose "Tony" DeGracia of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain, John Kaniaris and Sixto Bigio will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. The Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter 20 will conduct Military Honors.
