William T. Coats, 86, Enjoyed Riding His Bike, Water Skiing and Boating
William T. "Bill" Coats, 86, of Lorain passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at his home while in the care of his wife and Hospice of the Western Reserve and his caregiver, Susan Peters.
Mr. Coats was born in Lorain on August 25, 1924, the son of the late Paul T and Mary H (nee Petrey) Coats. He was a graduate of Lorain High School, Class 1942B. He was a US Navy veteran, serving during W.W.II.
He was a member of First Congregational Church in Lorain and it's Supper Club.
Mr. Coats was a retired foreman in the fuels and power department with US
Steel, for 40 years, retiring in 1983.
He enjoyed riding his bike, water skiing, boating, Lake Erie, bowling, golf and played baseball with the US Steel Company team. He was a member of
the University Club of Lorain and served as treasurer.
Mr. Coats is survived by his wife of 68 years, Betty Jane (nee Northam) Coats, his daughters Nancy L. (Stanley) Youtt of Westminster, MA, Betty Anne (Jeffrey) Smith of Canton, GA, grandchildren, David A. Youtt, Randall T Smith, Daniel W Youtt, Kimberly A Comai, Susan A Youtt, great grand children, Sarah, Emily, Samuel Youtt, Allison, Charlie Youtt, Dylan, Tyler Comai, Violet, Ireland, Sawyer Smith and a sister Pauline Y Banas of Florida.
Friends may call on Friday, October 29, 2010 from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. & 7 p.m - 9 p.m. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 30, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the First Congregational Church, 423 Washington Ave. Lorain, with Rev. Vicki McGaw, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, with full military honors provided jointly by the American Legion Post 30 and The VFW Post 451 of Lorain.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the First
Congregational Church, 423 Washington Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052 in his
memory.
