Dorothy Jane "Dottie" Ryan, 62, Enjoyed Spending Time with Her Family and Sports

Photo of Dorothy Jane Dorothy Jane "Dottie" Ryan, (nee Brest) age 62, of Lorain, passed away Sunday October 24, 2010 at her residence following a 2 � year battle with cancer.

Dottie is survived by her husband of 35 years James Ryan, by sons Sam (Linda) and Jay Lute, and by daughters Tammy (Sean) Stevens and Jami (John) Nold, along with grandchildren Sean, Sam, James, Anthony, Brycen, Hannah, Jordan, and Matthew; she is also survived by her sister Mary Carek, by her twin sister Dolores Poli, and her brother David Brest.

She was preceded in death by her mother Rose M. "Rosie" Brest, by her father Vincent J. Brest, and by both her paternal and maternal grandparents.

Dorothy was co-owner of Lorain’s popular Rosie’s Pizza Palace. She was recently inducted into the Lorain Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame at its 2010 enshrinement ceremonies. She was a parishioner of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church and was also a member of the VFW Woman’s Auxiliary.

Dorothy was an avid sports fan and everyone who was fortunate enough to know her knew of her love for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In her free time she enjoyed boating, bowling, and golfing. Additional interests included trips with her husband to Las Vegas and MGM, as well as spending time with her grandchildren, and relaxing on her swing looking at her Koi Pond. She was also known for her extensive collection of hats.

Friends and family will be received in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday October 27th. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Leonard M. Bacik, Pastor of St. Bartholomew Catholic Church presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to the Ronald McDonald House, 10415 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106-4709.
