David J. "Jim" Borthwick, 85, Enjoyed Spending Time with Family, Golfing and Bowling

He was born June 21, 1925 in Lorain and had resided in Elyria for the past 13 years.
Jim attended Lorain High School and joined the Merchant Marines. He worked as a machinist at US Steel in Lorain for 12 years and at Republic/LTV Steel in Elyria for 30 years retiring in 1987.
Jim was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lorain where he volunteered with the church food co-op program. He also volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels at First Lutheran Church in Lorain and was a member of the Wesleyan Senior Center in Elyria.
Jim enjoyed golf and bowling and bowled in many classic leagues throughout the Lorain area. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his friends.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Marilyn (nee Dovala), children Cindy Borthwick Balser (Brian) of Grafton and David Borthwick (Angi nee Wilson) of Lorain, grandchildren Brittney and Cayley Balser and Hannah and Grace Borthwick and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents David and Julia Borthwick (nee Fogel), sister Lois M. Simo and brother-in-law John Simo.
The family will receive friends Saturday 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 4501 Clinton Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Laurie Miller, pastor, will officiate. Cremation will follow.
