Donald F. Bobek, 65, Enjoyed Golf & Cooking

Donald F. Bobek, 65, of Lorain, died Wednesday October 27, 2010 at his home after a sudden illness.

He was born February 1, 1945 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Don graduated from Admiral King High School in 1963 where he lettered in basketball and Lorain County Community College where he received an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering.

Don worked at CenturyTel in Lorain as a lineman for 35 years retiring in 2007. He was owner/operator of Avanna's Beauty Salon in Amherst for 9 years.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain. He enjoyed golf, cooking, exercising, playing the piano and researching his family genealogy.

He is survived by his children Sherri Bennett (Duane) of Elyria and Lisa Combs (Dave) of Ashtabula, grandchildren Amber Lee Bobek, Colby Combs, Brittney Bennett and Austin Bennett, companion Sandi Stavesky of Elyria and brothers-in-law Gerald Oleksa (Pat) of Elyria and John Oleksa (Michelle) of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years Sandra (nee Oleksa) in 2004, parents William and Marguerite Bobek and brothers William and Richard Bobek.

The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 am in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
