John A. "Alex" McNair, 89, Enjoyed Fishing, Woodworking and Television Repair

He was born in Jarrow-On-Tyne, England on June 17, 1921 and had been a long-time resident of Lorain.

Alex was a World War II veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Corps; he was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal.

Mr. McNair was employed as a machinist for the United States Steel Corporation for 41 years.

He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain, Sheffield Masonic Lodge # 628 F & A.M., the Polish Fisherman’s Club, and the Society of Air Race Historians.

In his free time he enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and television repair.

Survivors include his sons Thomas A. McNair (Mary) of Elyria and David S. McNair (Tammy) of Dayton, Texas, five grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and brother William R. McNair.

He was preceded in death by his wife Aileen M. McNair (nee Stuller) in 2004, and by his parents Andrew and Elizabeth (nee Morris) McNair.

Visitation will be Wednesday November 10th from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain.

Funeral services will be Thursday November 11th at Noon in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Mary Carson, Interim Pastor of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
