Elsie A. Danevich, 65, Champion For People With Disabilities

Photo of Elsie A. Danevich Elsie A. Danevich (nee Jeffreys), 65, of Elyria Township, died Saturday November 27, 2010 at her home after a short illness.

She was born March 28, 1945 in Crafton, Pennsylvania and had resided in Elyria Township for over 40 years. She grew up in Sheffield Lake.

Elsie was a 1963 graduate of Brookside High School in Sheffield where she ran track and set many school records. She was the first woman to compete in the pole vault at Brookside.

Elsie worked as a program director for LEAP/CIL in Elyria Township for the past 20 years. She was a champion for people with disabilities.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years Bruce Danevich, daughter Lisa Danevich of Elyria, stepdaughter Debra Hazlett of West Virginia, sisters Jane Graziano (Michael) of Pine Island, Florida and Bonnie Hahn (Robert) of Guernsey, Illinois, brother John Jeffreys III (Debra) of Amherst and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John H.and Betty Jane Jeffreys (nee Irwin).

The family will receive friends Monday 12:00-2:00 pm and 4:00 pm until time of funeral services at 6:00 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Mark Ribbins will officiate. Cremation will follow.
