Virginia Dorothy Myers, 82, Enjoyed Crafts, Crocheting, Reading and Jigsaw Puzzles

Photo of Virginia Dorothy Myers Virginia Dorothy Myers (nee Porostovsky), 82, of Lorain, died Tuesday December 7, 2010 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain.

She was born in Lorain in 1928, attended Lorain schools and graduated from Lorain High School in January 1946. She married Robert J. Myers in 1947.

During her high school years, she worked at the F.W. Woolworth store. For 20 years, she worked at Jakmas Plumbing and Heating in Lorain and then worked for Montgomery Hardware in Jackson Center, Pennsylvania for 5 years.

Virginia resided in Avon Lake for 20 years, moved to Sandy Lake, Pennsylvania for nine years and returned to Lorain in 1990.

She was president of the Vincent School PTA, den mother and secretary of Cub Scout Pack #307 of Faith United Methodist Church in Lorain for 23 years, administrative secretary of the board at Faith United Methodist Church for 10 years and taught Sunday school and junior worship classes at the church.

Virginia enjoyed crafts, crocheting, reading and jigsaw puzzles. She loved deer and collected items with deer scenes and had reindeer Christmas decorations.

She is survived by her daughter Rena J. Hinson of Hitchcock, Texas, granddaughters Traci Ann Meek of Mesquite, Texas, Kristen Jo Shaw (Frank) of Louisiana and Lisa Jo Ann Smith of Houston, Texas, great granddaughters Beverly Ann Meek and Brittany Jo Meek, both of Mesquite, TX, great grandson Steven Jennings Ormsbee of Houston, TX, and sisters Shirley Speckhart and Carole Myers, both of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert J. Myers in 1984, son Ronald J. Myers in 1996, daughter Vicki J. Stineman in 2003, parents Michael and Mary Porostovsky (nee Zakutny), sisters Lillian Archambeau, Ethel Nocjar, Marion Susanjar, brothers Michael Porostovsky, George Proxy, Richard Porostovsky, Robert Porostovsky and Lester Porter.

Friends may call Sunday 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Karen Hollingsworth, pastor of Faith United Methodist Church in Lorain, officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
