Virginia M. Williams, 102, Enjoyed Crossword Puzzles

Virginia M. Williams (nee Harvey), 102, of Lorain passed away Friday evening, December 10, 2010 at Amherst Manor Retirement Community following a brief illness.

Mrs. Williams was born in Ripley, WV on April 14, 1908, the daughter of the late Hubert H. Henry and Olive E. Henry (nee Sanford). She was a graduate of Lorain High School and a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria. She has lived in the Lorain area all her life.

She worked in the financial office of Smith & Gerhart Department Store and the Holbrook Maytag Store.

Mrs. Williams was a strong and independent woman; raising her family alone following the passing of her husband in 1953. She was witty and devout in her beliefs and could always be counted on to share those beliefs and feelings with whomever she was talking. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles, books, ice cream (praline-pecan) and broccoli. She strived to "pay her own way" and succeeded.

She is survived by daughters: Janet L. Francis of Sullivan, and Catherine C. (Jerry) Delmonico of Amherst, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Norman H. Williams on March 22, 1953, a grandson Harry L. Francis, Jr., a sister Catherine Galvani, and a brother George Henry.

Friends may call Thursday, December 16, 2010 from 11:00 am until services at 1:00 pm. in the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 West 5th Street Lorain. Chaplain Christopher Robinson, of the New Life Hospice, will officiate.

Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.

The family would like to acknowledge, with great appreciation, the staff of the 3rd floor at Amherst Manor. Their exceptional care and personal attention to their Mother was exemplary.
