John J. Spalich, 74, Enjoyed Golf, Reading and Spending Time with His Grandchildren

He was born March 15, 1936 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
John was a graduate of Lorain High School and then served with the US Army in the late 1950's.
He worked as a firefighter for the city of Lorain Fire Department for 32 years retiring in 1993.
John was a member of Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Lorain, American Legion Post #30, VFW Post #451 and IAV Post #1, all of Lorain.
He enjoyed golf, reading and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children Tim (Tracy) Spalich of Lorain and Judith (Tony) Zircher of New Bremen, grandchildren Timmy Spalich, Evan Zircher, Abbigayle Zircher and Jason Zircher, sister Katherine (Richard) Weber of Lorain, sister-in-law Gail Spalich of South Amherst and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years Gayle L. Spalich (nee Sommers) on March 21, 2010, parents Lawrence and Anna Spalich (nee Zvosec) and brother Lawrence Spalich, Jr.
The family will receive friends Sunday 2 p.m. - 4 p.m., 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10 a.m. at Mary Mother of God Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW Post #451 and American Legion Post #30 will conduct military honors.
