Nellie Evelyn Ramirez, 78, Strong Woman of Faith Who Will Be Deeply Missed

Photo of Nellie Evelyn Ramirez Nellie Evelyn Ramirez (nee Wyatt) 78, formerly of Lorain, departed this earthly life, surrounded by the white light of Christ, on December 16, 2010 in Maryville, Tennessee.

She was born August 4, 1932 in Centralia, W.Va., and lived in Lorain for most of her life, before becoming a resident of Maryville for the past 15 years.

Possessing an 8th grade education, Evelyn went on to earn a G.E.D. and graduated from Lorain County Community College in 1974 with an Associates degree in education. Learning was a lifelong joy for Evelyn and she encouraged others to obtain the power of knowledge through her genuine interest in their well-being. Evelyn was a strong woman both of faith and will, never ceasing to let hardships set her back. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and her deep desire to be spiritually connected to all that was good in life.

Among the survivors are her devoted husband of 53 years, Jesus "Jess" Ramirez of Maryville; daughters, Stephanie (Ralph) Woodings of Maryville, Lisa Rios of Elyria, Ohio; sons, Jan Michael (Bernadette) Ramirez of Oberlin, Ohio, and Robert (Valerie) Ramirez of Columbus Grove, Ohio; beloved grandchildren, Mitchell, Steven, Valerie, Marlene, Matthew, Reece, Rachel, Benjamin and Nathaniel; great-grandchild, Julianna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Nellie Mae (Wyatt) McIntyre; infant daughter, Ramona; and her brothers, Larry and Alfred Jr.

Her family will receive friends Thursday, Dec. 23 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, (440) 277-8164. Her funeral service will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home. Deacon, Juan "Rocky" Ortiz of Sacred Heart Chapel Lorain will officiate.Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio.

The family asks that memorial donations be made to Our Lady of Fatima Building Fund, 860 Louisville Road, Alcoa, TN 37701 or to benefit cancer research.
