Julia I. Polgar, 93, Ceramic Dolls Crafter & Accomplished Baker

She was born in Lorain on October 19, 1917 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
Julia attended Lorain High School and went on to enroll at the Lorain Business College. She was formerly employed as an associate for E.K. Smith Jewelers in Lorain and had also worked in the U.S. Army Ordinance Office in Cleveland during World War II.
Mrs. Polgar was a parishioner of the former St. Ladislaus Catholic Church in Lorain and was currently attending St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church. She was extremely proud of her Hungarian heritage and was a member of the Lorain Hungarian Club as well as a member and past officer of the Lorain Hungarian Council. She had also served as a member and past officer of St. Ann’s Auxiliary.
Julia was a crafter of ceramic dolls and was also an accomplished baker who specialized in baking wedding cakes. Additional interests included cooking, and making candy.
She is survived by her sister Margaret Woodings (Albert) of Lorain along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1984, by her parents Frank and Julia (nee Tirpak) Pagacs, by sisters Elvira Price and Wilma Simms, and by her brother Frank.
Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Tuesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive with the Reverend John C. Retar, Pastor of the parish presiding. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
