Steve J. Donat, 60, Motorcycle Enthusiast, Enjoyed Boating, Fishing and Hunting
Steve J. Donat, age 60, of Elyria Township, died Sunday December 19, 2010 at Anchor Lodge Nursing Home following an illness of three years. He was born June 30, 1950 in Lorain and had been a resident of Elyria Township for the past twenty years.Steve was a graduate of Admiral King High School. He worked briefly for the Lake Terminal Railroad Company prior to joining United States Steel Corporation where he fulfilled assignments as a dispatcher, and later as a shipper. He retired in 2005 following a career that spanned 33 years with the steel producer.
He was a parishioner of St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church in Lorain and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also proud to have fulfilled adorations every Friday at Nativity B.V.M. Catholic Church in South Amherst for nearly three years.
Mr. Donat was a member of the River Rats as well as the Lorain Russo-Slav Club, and Amherst Eagles Aerie # 1442.
Steve enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was also a motorcycle enthusiast who had visited 46 states aboard his motorcycle. He, along with his riding partner, attempted to visit the Eagle's Club is each city they visited. He was a proud member of the Patriot Guard.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years Noreen (nee Zvosechz), sons David J. (Christy) Donat of Sheffield Lake, and Stephen Donat (Kristie) of Avon, daughter Lisa Paradise (Robert) of Avon Lake, step-daughter L. Amber Steffel (Michael) of Sullivan, twelve grandchildren, his mother Louise Donat (nee Seskar), and sisters Barbara Naymik (James) of Defiance, Ohio and Christine Morse (Brian) of Elyria.
He was preceded in death by his father Steve "Pitt" Donat in 1992.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. in St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. The Reverend John C. Retar, Pastor of the parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
