Roy Nickoloff, 75, Korean War Veteran, POW, Purple Heart Recipient

Photo of Roy Nickoloff Roy Nickoloff, 75, of Deland, Florida and formerly of Lorain, died Sunday January 9, 2011 at Halifax Health-Hospice of Volusia-Flagler in Orange City, Florida.

He was born August 7, 1935 in Lorain and had resided in Deland for the past 16 years.

Roy graduated from Lorain High School. He served with the US Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper with the rank of E-3. He was a prisoner of war and Purple Heart recipient.

After the war, Roy returned home to work in the family run business, Nickoloff Builders. A photo of he and his 3 brothers is still at the top of the company’s website today.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lorain and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain.

He is survived by his children Jeff Nickoloff (Stephanie), Timothy Nickoloff (Jessica), Theodore Nickoloff, Roseanne Nickoloff and Suzanne Nickoloff, all of Lorain.

He was preceded in death by his parents Phillip and Mary Nickoloff (nee Benedik), brothers Vladimir in 1993, Robert in 1995, twin brother Ray in 2001, sisters Bertha in 1989 and Rose Campbell in 1981.

A graveside military funeral service will held Friday at 10:00 am at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 N. Ridge Rd, Amherst Township. The Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 of Lorain will preside.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain.
