Charles J. "Charlie" Vegh, 86, Physical Fitness Enthusiast, Enjoyed Boating and Reading

He was born in Budapest, Hungary on February 28, 1924 and immigrated to the United States in 1949.
Charlie was employed as a tool and die maker for the Ridge Tool Company in Elyria for more than thirty years. He had previously been employed by the Elyria Foundry Company.
Mr. Vegh was a physical fitness enthusiast and had previously spent a good portion of each week working out at the Physical Fitness Center at Oberlin College. He also enjoyed both downhill and cross country skiing.
Additional interests included boating, and reading, with a particular interest in works pertaining to history. Charlie was also an accomplished chess enthusiast who was well known for his willingness to discuss politics and to debate political issues.
He is survived by his companion of twenty-three years Laverne Toth, by children Pearl Novak (James) of Amherst, Charles (Paulette) Vegh of Lakewood, Nancy (Mitch) Czerkas of Amherst, Patty (Donlion) Ziegler of Vermilion, and Janet (Howard) Pullin also of Amherst, and grandchildren Kris, Brian, Haley, Richard, Mandy, and Annabelle.
He was preceded in death by his wife Magda O. (nee Keresztes) Vegh in 1988.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
