Juan J. Gonzalez, 88, US Army Veteran, Loved Ministering the Word of God to Others

He was born on August 28, 1922 to Dionesio & Aramita Cuevas Gonzalez in Lares, Puerto Rico. He married the love of his life Lucy V. (nee:Arzuaga) on December 20, 1951. Together they had three children: twins Juan J. "Junior" and Jose Luis "Joey" and youngest son, Deacon Edgar.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Eusebio, Maria, Isabel, Otilia, and Adela.
He is survived by his only living sister Maria Luisa Velez and brother in law Ernesto Sanabria of Elyria. Daughter in laws: Margaret (Solis) and Christina (Martin) and seven grand children. Sister in law Betty Ortiz of Cleveland and Carmen M. Lozada of Carolina, Puerto Rico, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Juan served in the US Army 75th Infantry receiving various medals for his service to our country. He moved from Puerto Rico in 1948 and has been a life long resident of Lorain.
His greatest love beside his wife and family was ministering the Word of God to many. He was a bible scholar and read the scriptures every day. Juan was known for his love of writing and reciting poetry. He also composed many songs where he sang and played them on his guitar. Juan also loved wood working and made many rocking horses and toys that he gave as gifts. He will be sadly missed by many that loved him.
The family will receive friends at Reidy-Scanlan-Giovannazzo Funeral Home, 2150 Broadway, Lorain, (440) 244-1961 on Monday, January 31, 2011 from 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2011 at the funeral home, Rev. Gilbert Silva, officiating. Christian burial services will be held at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp., where military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post 30 and VFW Post 451.
