Paul C. Tomasic, 79, US Navy Veteran, Enjoyed Playing Hockey Through His Life and Attending His Grandchildren's Sporting Events

Photo of Paul C. Tomasic Paul C. Tomasic, 79, of Lorain, died Monday February 14, 2011 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born April 21, 1931 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Paul graduated from Lorain High School in 1949. He served with the US Navy during the Korean War as an Aviation Electronics Technician.

Paul worked for the city of Lorain Fire Department as a firefighter and on the Fire Prevention Bureau retiring in 1998 after 20 years. He also worked for Sears in Elyria as a service manager for over 20 years.

He was a member of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain and the former St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lorain where he was active in church functions and was a member of the Holy Name Society. Paul was active with fundraising activities for the Athletic Boosters at Lorain Catholic High School.

Paul enjoyed playing hockey and began playing as a youth, played for the Bates Hockey team while in the US Navy and continued playing in leagues in Cleveland up until the age of 60. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Joan Tomasic (nee Pustulka), children Catherine Pastron (Dennis) and Linda Rosser (John), both of Lorain, grandchildren Matthew Pastron (Lauren) of Myrtle Beach, SC, Bryan Pastron, John Rosser, Kevin Rosser and Kyle Rosser, all of Lorain, great granddaughter Madison Taylor Pastron of Myrtle Beach, SC, brothers Joseph Tomasic of Arizona and James Tomasic (Ann) of Lorain and sister Mary Skolnicki of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his parents Blaz and Katie Tomasic (nee Mihalic), infant brothers Robert and Lawrence Tomasic, infant sister Pauline Tomasic, brothers Steve, Martin, Michael, William and Blaz Tomasic and sister Anne Stansky.

The family will receive friends Friday 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at the Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Craig Hovanec, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
