Patrick A. Mathna, 65, Enjoyed Studying His Native American Culture
Patrick A. Mathna, age 65, of Lorain, passed away unexpectedly on February 24th.He was born in Lorain on June 29, 1945 and remained a life-long resident of the city. Mr. Mathna was a graduate of Admiral King High School and went on to serve in the United States Air Force.
He was formerly employed by the Lorain City Water Department.
Patrick was one quarter Cherokee Indian and was extremely proud of his Native American Heritage; he enjoyed studying that culture and collecting artifacts pertaining to it.
He is survived by his daughter Misty Mathna of Lorain, by grandchildren Michael, Megan, Robert, Jacob, David, Sierra, Kathleen, Aliah, and Jayden, by great grandson Jaylen, and by his sister Margaret Rose "Peggy" Mathna residing in Bratenahl.
Mr. Mathna was preceded in death by his father, former Lorain Mayor Woodrow W. Mathna in 2004 and by his mother Kathleen Mathna (nee Dillon) in 1995.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Robert Daugherty presiding. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
