Nelson F. Custer, 83, US Army Veteran, Enjoyed Spending Time with Family and Friends, Especially His Grand and Great Grandchildren

Photo of Nelson F. Custer Nelson F. Custer, 83 of North Ridgeville passed away Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Cleveland Clinic following an extended illness.

He was born November 28, 1927 in Portage, PA and had been a Cleveland resident most of his life.

He had been employed as a machine operator for 38 years at Ford Motor Co. retiring in 1991.

EHe was a WW II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and had served with the 421st Night Fighter Squadron Division 5.

He was a member of the American Legion, Knights of Columbus and was an honorary Girl Scouts Leader.

Nelson was mechanically inclined and enjoyed computers, camping, fishing, eating out and spending time with friends and family, especially with his cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include his daughter, Patty Mustar of North Ridgeville, his son, Nelson F. Custer, Jr. (Trina) of Medina, grandchildren, Michael (Autumn), Kathleen (Michael), David (Jenna), Shane, Anna, Nelson III and Mary, great grandchildren, Kali, Emma and Logan, sisters, Geraldine (Al) Templeton of FL and Edna (Art) Huff of Portage, PA, and brothers, Donald (Kay) Custer of Portage, PA and Rev. Robert (Judy) Custer of Bedford, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (nee Harchuck), daughters, Sherri and Ellen, parents, Bertha (Nelson) and Howard S. Custer and by sisters, Eileen Tranter and Lorraine Marks. Friends will be received from 1-3 & 7-9 P.M. Thursday, March 10, 2011 and also beginning at 9:30 A.M. Friday at the David Bogner Family Funeral Home 36625 Center Ridge Rd., North Ridgeville where a prayer service will begin at 10:30 A.M. Friday followed by an 11 A.M. funeral mass at St. Julie Billiart Catholic Church 5500 Lear Nagle Rd., North Ridgeville. Rev. Dr. Richard Gonser, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Cleveland where North Ridgeville VFW Post 9871 will conduct full military graveside rites.
