Harold B. Steiner, 92, World War II Veteran

Harold B. Steiner, age 92, of Elyria, passed away Thursday March 24th at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria.

He was born in Lorain on August 1, 1918 and had been a resident of Lorain County for most of his life; Harold was a 1936 graduate of Lorain High School.

He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Corporal attached to the 17th Headquarter Company, Third Division; while deployed in Europe he personally met General George S. Patton. He was also involved in the conflict at Anzio and was a member of the security forces during the January 1943 Casablanca Conference in Morocco between U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with five Bronze Stars, the American Defense Ribbon with one Bronze Star, as well as the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Steiner was a member of Amvets Post 47 and VFW Post # 451 both of Lorain.

Harold was most recently employed as a boiler operator for the Lorain Public School System in their middle schools. He had previously been employed as a sales associate for the Sears & Roebuck Company as well as the co-proprietor of the Greenwood Inn.

He is survived by his sons Warren of Vermilion, and Bruce W. (Laurie) of South Amherst, along with grandsons Bruce and Brian.

He was preceded in death by his parents Warren S. and Edna (nee Beyer) Steiner, and by his brother William.
